2016 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships

The 2016 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, the largest event of its kind, will be held on the Sunshine Coast from Saturday 16 to Sunday 24 April 2016.

The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, known as “The Aussies” dates back to the first edition conducted at Bondi Beach in March 1915. In the years since, The Aussies has become a major event on the Australian sporting landscape, in the magnitude of the Commonwealth Games, and consists of a two week festival of surf lifesaving sport action including:

  • Australian Youth Surf Life Saving Championships, April 16 – 17
  • Australian Masters Surf Life Saving Championships, April 18 – 19
  • Australian Open Surf Life Saving Championship, April 20 – 24

Surf Life Saving’s pinnacle event and annual competition will take place in 2016 at the Sunshine Coast’s Maroochydore, Alexandra Headland and Mooloolaba beaches.

Events for The Aussies 2016 will be split between the three venues as follows;

  • Maroochydore SLSC – Water events
  • Alexandra Headland SLSC – Lifesaving and Surfboats
  • Coolumn Beach - Board riding (dependent on suitable surf break conditions - back up is Alexandra Headland south of surf club)
  • Mooloolaba SLSC – Beach events
