The Junior Lifesaver of the Year (JLOTY) is an annual award presented by Surf Life Saving NSW. As part of the process, two finalists (male and female) from each branch are invited to participate in the JLOTY Development Camp.
During the camp, finalists are interviewed by a judging panel of experienced volunteer surf lifesavers assessing individuals on their merit to be named the Junior Lifesaver of the Year.
The aim of the camp is to provide participants with an environment where they can develop their leadership skills, be supported through their personal development and goal setting and be able to work together and share ideas with like-minded peers.
The camp also provides the opportunity to explain Surf Life Saving’s core activities and describe the pathways available through Surf Life Saving for personal and club development.
The diversity of activities within branches are also identified as well as positively recognising members, encouraging their future involvement in surf life saving.
