NSW Surf Life Saving Champs Go Ahead

Junior surf competitors are braving the wet and windy conditions to compete today at the NSW Allphones Surf Life Saving Championships at Ocean Beach-Umina.

After assessing the conditions early this morning and assembling team managers together to discuss options, it was determined that a revised program would be run.

Some water and beach events will be staged at Ocean Beach-Umina, while Under 11 and Under 12 competitors have been moved to Terrigal Beach for their water events.

Event organisers are hoping to get through at least some of the events today and will reassess the program for tomorrow.

The carnival Organising Committee chairperson, Brett Harrod, says while the weather is extremely disappointing, it's great to see at least some of the 4000+ competitors are still keen for a chance to compete.

"While some of the kids and their families have obviously decided to go home due to the weather, there are still many who are happy to have a go," said Harrod.

Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Ironmen Ali Day and Kendrick Louis are also visiting the kids on the beach today to lend their support. From 10am they will be signing autographs and giving away freebies.

Revised timetable information is available on the State Champs event page.
