Australia Gets On Board for Boardies Day

On Friday 22 February Australians from all walks of life ditched their usual attire for a pair of boardies for the Surf Life Saving national fundraiser Boardies Day.

We were in Martin Place staging a big Boardies Day promotion with over 6000 pairs of Mambo and Kirks boardies and budgie smugglers for sale. SLSNSW even presented the Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott, with a pair of retro-designed boardies so he could get into the spirit.

The community knows the great job our volunteer surf lifesavers do and Boardies Day is a fun way to support surf clubs by raising much-needed funds for rescue and first aid gear, equipment and training so they can continue to save more than 12,000 people each year nationally.

The beauty of Boardies Day as a grass-roots fundraising initiative is that people can nominate their favourite surf club to raise funds for and 100% of those funds go directly back to the club, to help keep patrols on the beach.

Schools and businesses all over NSW participated in Boardies Day, with many NSW surf clubs nominated as beneficiaries.

You can still do your bit by visiting the Official Boardies Day website and making a donation.

Thank you to everyone who supported Boardies Day and continually support Surf Life Saving.
