Australians on Board for Boardies Day
The Surf Life Saving national fundraiser, Boardies Day, has kicked off with businesses, schools and community groups everywhere ditching their corporate clobber for their favourite pair of boardies or beach gear.
The community knows the great job our volunteer surf lifesavers do and Boardies Day is a fun way to support surf clubs by raising much-needed funds for rescue and first aid gear, equipment and training so they can continue to save more than 12,000 people each year nationally.
The beauty of Boardies Day as a grass-roots fundraising initiative is that people can nominate their favourite surf club to raise funds for and 100% of those funds go directly back to the club, to help keep patrols on the beach.
Schools and businesses all over NSW are participating in Boardies Day, with many NSW surf clubs nominated as beneficiaries. SLSNSW staged a big Boardies Day promotion in Martin Place this week and we even presented the Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott, with a pair of retro-designed boardies so he could get into the spirit.
The website, www.boardiesday.com.au, is where it all happens – even if you didn't wear your Boardies today you can still encourage people to go to the website where they can make a donation to the surf club of their choice.
