Be Part of Surf Club Open Day This Sunday

This Sunday 16 October, Surf Life Saving Clubs across the state will be inviting the public to take a look inside and see what being part of a surf club is all about.

This year’s Surf Club Open Day event marks the fifth year of the program in NSW and it’s as popular as ever with 89 clubs participating in what is fast becoming a fixture on the Surf Life Saving calendar.

Surf Life Saving NSW Director of Member Services, Glenn Langley, said Surf Club Open Day would give the public the opportunity to see the wide variety of activities that surf lifesaving clubs engage in and how people can become involved.

“With the lifesaving season now well underway, it’s a great time to think about joining a surf club and getting involved in your local community with the more than 74,000 people who are currently involved in our great movement,” said Glenn Langley.

“By becoming a member there are literally hundreds of volunteer roles to choose from such as patrolling the beach on a weekend, to radio communications, administration and fundraising, or managing a team of competitors at a surf carnival. Everyone has what it takes to be a surf lifesaver,” said Glenn Langley.

The participating clubs have been working hard over the last month preparing for the event and are excited about what the public will experience this weekend.

“There are so many benefits to joining a surf club. Apart from learning vital lifesaving skills, you can get involved with support services such as powered water craft patrols, get fit and healthy participating in surf sports or involve your kids in a fun range of Nipper activities that will help their development and keep them safe at the beach,” said Glenn Langley.

“One of the great things about joining a surf club is that you walk into a ready-made group of friends. It’s also a great way to spend some family time together, while doing something good for the community.”

Surf Life Saving NSW invites you to come down to your local surf club and learn more about who we are, what we do and how you and your family can become involved in our great organisation.
