Clarence Valley Lifeguards Resume Summer Patrol

Clarence Valley lifeguards from the Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) are counting down the days until they return to the beaches ahead of what many are anticipating will be a busy summer.

The Clarence area has long been a favourite for holiday makers looking to make the most of a summer break, and with hot conditions forecast thanks to the El Nino effect locals and tourists alike will be looking to beat the heat at the beach.

Throughout the summer lifeguards will be patrolling Iluka, Turners, Main Beach Yamba, Pippies, Brooms Head, Minnie Water, and Wooli. With the exception of Minnie Water, and Yamba’s Main Beach which are Monday – Friday all services will be seven days a week.

Additionally volunteer lifesavers at the local surf life saving clubs will be patrolling on weekends and public holidays ensuring that there will be plenty of trained eyes on the waters off the Clarence Coast.

ALS NSW Manager Brent Manieri said lifeguards are looking forward to resuming their patrol duties after performing strongly in their annual proficiency tests.

“We are at the stage of the season now where all the testing is complete and everyone is just really looking forward to putting their skills into practice.

“This year we will be continuing to emphasise preventative actions on the part of our lifeguards to ensure that potentially dangerous situations are dealt with before they escalate. This could include such actions as encouraging swimmers to swim between the flags and identifying hazards that could impact on beachgoers safety,” Mr Manieri said.

He also praised Clarence Valley Council for their commitment to the safety of all beach goers in the area.

“Our focus, like Council, is ensuring the safety of all beach goers in the area, and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Council and delivering a high level of service to everyone who spends time at one of the beaches throughout the Clarence region,” he concluded.
