Coogee SLSC's Julien Vincent Takes Out Endeavour Award

Coogee Surf Life Saving Club’s own Julien Vincent has taken out the prestigious Endeavour Award as part of NSW Children’s Week Awards of Recognition.

The Endeavour Award is presented to a person under the age of 18 years who makes extraordinary contributions to other children or young people. This may include voluntary work, advocacy or being a good role model for other children and young people.

“It is a very proud moment receiving this award, knowing that I got recognised for my achievements and efforts in Surf Life Saving,” said Julien.

“Being involved in Surf Life Saving is a rewarding feeling - the best part of it is being a part of a great team, giving back to the community and even saving lives on patrol,” he added.

During the past four years as a patrolling member of Surf Life Saving NSW, Julien has committed his time to voluntary work completing over 525 patrolling hours on Sydney's beaches and helping save the lives of ten people.

At the end of the 2012-2013 Surf Life Saving season, for his outstanding contribution, Julien was rewarded with the ‘Patrol Person of the Year Award’ by Coogee SLSC followed by winning the ‘Under 17 Life Saver of the Year Award’ from Surf Life Saving Sydney Branch.

Julien is also a part of the President's Youth Committee, a committee that organises social events, surf trips and patrols on other beaches for cadet and junior lifesavers (a group called the Blueys). Being a part of the committee gives him the chance to develop his leadership skills amongst other young people who are more or less in the same position as him.

Over the weekend, Julien represented Surf Life Saving and made an impact as a main lifesaver at the Sydney Opera House 40th Birthday Celebrations.

“I'd like to thank Coogee Surf Life Saving Club for their ongoing support. I'd also like to thank Surf Life Saving NSW for the support they bring to the Youth in the organisation, by the programs implemented, such as the Youth Opportunity Makers Workshop, which I was lucky to attend in April this year representing Surf Life Saving Sydney,” said Julien.

Julien’s goals for the future including obtaining his Silver and Gold Medallions and becoming involved with Support Operations within Sydney Branch.
