Coogee Trainer Honoured At Annual Awards

Dedication to ensuring that all of her club’s Bronze Medallion candidates are ready for whatever patrolling adventure awaits them resulted in Coogee’s Beck Mister being named Trainer of the Year at the 2015 Surf Life Saving NSW Awards of Excellence.

The Trainer of the Year award recognises and rewards trainers who have made a significant contribution towards the area of education and awards within the surf lifesaving movement, and Beck Mister has certainly done that.

Beck was also a key member of the instructing team for Coogee’s Arctic Bronze Medallion course last season. The majority of this squad were current SRC holders and this was the first squad to use the prior learning assessment for the Bronze exam.

Her commitment to the members of the course meant that all successfully obtained their Bronze Medallion and were ready to take their place patrolling at Coogee Beach.

Beck is regarded as something of a mentor within the ranks of Coogee, and in her role as patrol captain has created an environment where the knowledge from experienced team members is freely shared with the rookies.

“I’m really proud and delighted to accept this award because education at Coogee is something that we are all extremely proud of,” Beck Mister said.

“It’s hard to single out any one moment that is a highlight for me, but I really enjoy working with all the patrols and ensuring everyone is well trained.

“We want to make sure that everyone is trained to a really high standard above what is required and I think we have achieved that,” she concluded.

Further highlighting her commitment to the club, Beck took time off work to attend the two-day Minnows Surf Camp in January where she provided Water Safety and instruction in Lifesaving to the children, as well as acting as First Aid Officer.

The 2015 SLSNSW Awards of Excellence are proudly presented by Stramit Building Products. Almost 350 of Surf Life Saving’s most outstanding lifesavers, athletes, educators, coaches, and administrators from around the state gathered at Sydney’s iconic Four Seasons Hotel for a night of celebration.
