How long have you been involved in surf lifesaving?

Since I was 7 years old. Before then I used to go and watch my cousins at Nippers so I knew I would enjoy it. I live on a farm and I love running so it’s good for my family to all go to the beach together on Sundays.

What do you enjoy most about being a member of a surf lifesaving club?

I like spending time with the friends I have made at Nippers. I love competing (and winning when I can). I also like when we go away for the weekend for carnivals and get to see new places.

How has your training been going for the Country Championships?

I also compete in little Athletics in summer, so I have been training for both. We’ve just got a new pool so it’s hard to get out of it to do proper training!

What are your goals for the Championships and the rest of the season?

To get better in the surf events. I am not as comfortable in the water as I am on the sand and I want to be good at ironman.

Do you have any pre-event superstitions or preparations?

I go over what I need to do in the race in my mind so I don’t forget. My mum says she sees my doing a little dance on the starting line!

What are you most looking forward to about Country Championships?

A holiday with my family on the South Coast – it’s a long way from home. It’s my brothers first year of competition, so I want to be there to cheer him on too.

Are there any surf athletes you admire or have found to be an inspiration and why?

I admire the senior competitors and some of the older Nippers in our club. I think I can learn a lot from them and they can give me tips to help my performance.

The 2015 Stramit NSW Country Championships will be held at Mollymook Beach on Jan 16-18.
