Country Champs Athlete Profile: Peter McKay

With the 2015 Stramit NSW Country Championships just around the corner, SLSNSW takes a look at some of those hoping to make their mark on the event.

Peter Mckay from Broulee Surfers SLSC on the states’ Far South Coast has a busy schedule planned for the championships intending to compete in both the beach and water events in the Masters category.

How long have you been involved in surf lifesaving?

30+ years

What do you enjoy most about being a member of a surf lifesaving club?

I love being a part of Broulee Surfers SLSC because of the camaraderie I share with fellow clubbies, the friendships I have made, volunteering in my local community which makes me feel good and most importantly making the beaches safe for everyone to enjoy.

How has your training been going for the Country Championships?

I’ve been training 3-4 times a week for the past 2 months with the help of Darren Philips and Scott Elliott. Hopefully it will be enough!

What are your goals for the Championships and the rest of the season?

To do the best I can and enjoy it.

Do you have any pre-event superstitions or preparations?


What are you most looking forward to about Country Championships?

Enjoying the competition and meeting up with old friends.

The 2015 Stramit NSW Country Championships will be held at Mollymook Beach on Jan 16-18.
