Country Champs Athlete Profile: Tiffany & Logan Coote

With the 2015 Stramit NSW Country Championships beginning Friday at Mollymook, SLSNSW takes a look at some of those hoping to make their mark on the event. In our final profile, we introduce two siblings from the host club who will be making their Country Championships debut.

Tiffany and Logan Coote from Mollymook SLSC will be making their Country Championships debut only four months after starting nippers. Refreshed after having the last four weeks off due to family holidays, the siblings are eager to show their speed when they take part in beach sprint and flags during the Championships. SLSNSW spoke to their proud father, Shane Coote about their experiences of lifesaving, and plans for the competition.

How long have you been involved in surf lifesaving, and what do you like most about being involved at a club?

They both have been involved in nipper's for about four month's now and are gradually improving and gaining confidence.

The kid's like meeting other kid's that are interested in activities and sports on the beach. They also enjoy competing against each other (especially the kid that win's).

How has your training been going for the Country Championships?

Tiffany and Logan’s preparations could have been a lot better but the family missed the last four weeks of nippers due to social events and holiday's. The pair knows this is no excuse ahead of their first major meet but they’re not using that as an excuse.

Are you looking forward to competing at the same event as your sibling?

Yes, the pair are very excited to compete together especially because the event is at their home club.

What are your goals for the Championships and the rest of the season?

No goals have been set yet but the kid's want to improve in the water event's this year.

Do you have any pre-event superstitions or preparations?

The pair don't have any pre-event superstitions; they just go out and give it their best.

What are you most looking forward to about Country Championships?

Tiffany says she's looking forward to the country champ's because it's a big event, Logan thinks it will be exciting to compete on home sand.

What does it mean to you to have the Country Championships at your home beach?

The kids are excited about having the Country Champ's at their home beach because it means that they can feel comfortable whilst competing because they know the surroundings.
