Drowning at Port Stephens

A young male has tragically drowned at Fingal Bay near Port Stephens.

Port Stephens Lifeguards were tasked to respond to reports that a man was in trouble in the water close to the northern spit at Fingal Bay shortly after 2pm on 27 November.

Lifeguards headed north to the location of the incident and were able to retrieve the male from the water and commenced CPR.

Police and Ambulance were also in attendance. Paramedics were unable to revive the man and he was pronounced deceased.

Australian Lifeguard Service Manager, Nigel Tebb said this tragedy is a sad reminder to always swim between the flags.

"Our lifeguards did a great job in their attempts to rescue and resuscitate this young man and the outcome is extremely distressing for everyone. Our thoughts are with his family and friends today.

"We're urging everyone to swim only at patrolled locations so we can keep you safe," said Nigel Tebb.
