Extraction Underway At Crescent Head
Surf lifesavers are working with lifeguards, police and paramedics in an extraction operation on the NSW Mid North Coast after a wave washed a group of 14 people onto the rocks on Wednesday.
At around 12:30pm reports began to emerge of an incident involving a large group of people at a rock platform near Big Nobbys, south of Crescent Head.
There were reports of at least 5 injuries including a broken shoulder and suspected head injury.
Volunteer lifesavers from the call-out team from Kempsey SLSC responded with an inflatable rescue boat while the duty officer and Mid North Coast supervisor also attended.
Lifeguards from the Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) who were patrolling Crescent Head were also tasked to attend.
Due to the remoteness of the location an on-water extraction was deemed impractical, while it is expected that most of those involved will be able to walk out to a nearby road. Further details of the circumstances surrounding the incident weren’t immediately available.
