From Shellharbour Nippers To Junior Lifesaver Of The Year
From the moment that Byron Vinkovic stepped into the water for the first time as a Nipper in the U8s he was hooked.
It was the start of a journey in Surf Life Saving that has led to him being crowned the Male Junior Life Saver of the Year in his final season of Nippers.
Leadership found Byron early and he contributes to his club in a variety of ways. He’s an enthusiastic helper in water safety, is always keen to help out the younger age groups, and has recently started patrolling Shellharbour North Beach. He also helps maintain the club’s IRB and patrol tent.
“I’ve been involved in Surf Life Saving for seven years now since I was a Nipper and I’ve always aspired to do something great so to be recognised on a level like this is amazing,” Byron Vinkovic said.
“It’s good to get recognition for Shellharbour SLSC and South Coast Branch as well because it’s been 14 years since a member from South Coast has won the Junior Lifesaver of the Year.”
Byron hopes to gain more qualifications, become a Patrol Captain and eventually crew an IRB as it’s something he has always wanted to achieve.
“I’m going to pursue being a cadet and just keep competing and training. I want to become a Lifeguard once I’m old enough so I’m looking forward to continuing my role in Surf Life Saving and beyond,” Byron Vinkovic said.
