IRB Competition Heats Up in Terrigal

Defending champions Kiama Downs SLSC remain in the lead after Round 3 of the Surf Life Saving NSW IRB Premiership Series held at Terrigal SLSC on 8-9 June 2014.

The team from the South Coast secured victory in 12 of the 18 finals just ahead of rivals Catherine Hill Bay SLSC.

Fourteen clubs competed in conditions suitable for some fast racing with the swell at half a foot and slight wind coming from the south.

Surf Life Saving NSW Surf Sports Manager, Shane Knight, was extremely impressed with the improvement shown by all teams.

“The off season development programs we have been running have really helped the clubs and you can see that in the overall ability and level of competition,” said Mr Knight.

“We also had some of our state selectors down at Terrigal and they were thoroughly impressed. We are all excited about working towards ending Queensland’s dominance in the IRB racing arena,” he added.

Round 4 of the SLSNSW IRB Premiership Series will take place at Woonona on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June. Pending conditions the make-up finals from Round 2 at Batemans Bay which were abandoned due to dangerous surf will also be held.
