Kim Winter Flies the Flag for Forster

Solo Forster SLSC competitor Kim Winter made the worthwhile journey to Mollymook Beach for the 2014 Stramit NSW Country Championships from 17-19 January scooping up 3 gold medals and a bronze.

Competing in the 50+ age group, Kim has only been part of a surf club for 10 years and took up competition just five years ago having never lived near the beach.

“Never give up, I still struggle with surf skills but never look at something and think you can’t do it,” said Kim.

“This is a sport where everyone can achieve at any level. I started off as a poor swimmer and then did a full 360. I now coach and mentor the younger members at Forster particularly on the beach,” she added.

Kim made the journey down south with her partner Gary Milby as the only competitor for Forster Surf Life Saving Club. She secured Gold in the 50-59 years Beach Sprint, Beach Flags and Single Ski and Bronze in the Ironwoman.

“The conditions are beautiful and we have never been so far south before. There is a bit of water movement so you still need to use your surf skills in these conditions. My age group is very competitive so I am happy to use this Carnival to prepare for State and Aussie Champs,” said Kim.
