Lifeguards Return For Summer Patrols

The Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) are anticipating a busy school holiday period on the beaches of Greater Taree and the Great Lakes when they resume patrolling duties next week.

From Monday, lifeguards will be patrolling the Lower North Coast’s tourist hotspots between Monday and Friday ensuring the safety of the beach going public.

In Greater Taree ALS lifeguards will be patrolling Crowdy Head, Old Bar and Black Head while in the Great Lakes Shire they will be present at Forster, One Mile Beach (Cape Hawke SLSC), Elizabeth Beach (Pacific Palms SLSC), and Hawks Nest.

In addition volunteer lifesavers from local surf life saving clubs will be patrolling on weekends and during public holidays. This ensures total coverage for an area that is fast emerging as a premium destination for New South Wales families.

ALS NSW Manager Brent Manieri said lifeguards are looking forward to resuming their patrol duties after performing strongly in their annual proficiency tests.

“We are at the stage of the season now where all the testing is complete and everyone is just really looking forward to putting their skills into practice.

“This year we will be continuing to emphasise preventative actions on the part of our lifeguards to ensure that potentially dangerous situations are dealt with before they escalate. This could include such actions as encouraging swimmers to swim between the flags and identifying hazards that could impact on beachgoers safety,” Mr Manieri said.

He also praised both Greater Taree and Great Lakes Council for their commitment to the safety of all beach goers in the area.

“Our focus, like each Council, is ensuring the safety of all beach goers in the area, and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with both Councils and delivering a high level of service to the people of the Lower North Coast.”
