Maroubra Lifesaver Named Volunteer Of The Year
Sydney Surf Lifesaver Trent Thomas from Maroubra SLSC has taken out the Volunteer of the Year award at the annual Surf Life Saving Awards of Excellence held in Sydney on Saturday 3rd August.
The SLSNSW Awards of Excellence acknowledge surf lifesavers from throughout NSW who have performed invaluable public service as lifesavers, administrators or trainers within the community. The awards were again proudly supported by Stramit Building Products.
Trent has been a valuable member of Maroubra SLSC for many years and has shown his commitment and dedication to surf lifesaving across all levels of the organisation including Administration, Education, Lifesaving, Member Development and Organisational Development and Strategy.
He is the current Vice President at Maroubra where he is a community orientated member who focuses on the understanding and engagement of the community to assist the overall development of Surf Life Saving as an organisation, including ways to retain and recruit members as well as develop the club’s juniors.
“I’m very humbled by this award. There were some other amazing candidates and I’m very grateful for winning and the recognition it gives but there’s so much more out there than the recognition and I hope that I can make a difference somewhere and help develop some of the club’s future leaders,” said Trent.
Trent also holds a great deal of knowledge when it comes to governance, transparency and compliancy and was also responsible for the development of the Maroubra Strategic Plan, highlighting the diverse roles he plays within the surf lifesaving movement.
At a state level, Trent has also coordinated and facilitated junior development programs and acted as a key Member Services Liaison, assisting with the development of various projects.
Trent is a highly motivated goal setter, who maintains a positive manner in all aspects and is very deserving of the Volunteer of the Year award.
More than 250 of Surf Life Saving’s most outstanding lifesavers, athletes, coaches and administrators gathered in Sydney on Saturday night to celebrate the enormous contribution of volunteers and clubs from across NSW.
