Maroubra Search Underway For Missing Man
One woman has drowned while a search coordinated by NSW Police, Surf Lifesavers, and Lifeguards continues for a missing man at Sydney’s Maroubra Beach on Tuesday.
At around 6am this morning a member of the public discovered the body of a woman aged in her 20s washed up at the northern end of the beach.
Further information received by the on-scene responders indicated that a second man who was believed to be with the woman and also aged in his 20s could not be accounted for.
A search effort was launched with the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, Two Sydney Duty Officers, Council Lifeguard Jet Skis, and NSW Police all providing support.
Currently the search is concentrated between the northern end of the beach and as far as Wedding Cake Island at Coogee, but poor visibility, and strong swell conditions are presenting a challenge to rescuers.
As of 11:30am Surf Life Saving assets have been stood down by Police but will continue to be available if requested.
A number of beaches in NSW are closed due to the weather with only Coogee currently open in metropolitan Sydney.
It is not known what activities the pair was doing at the time they got into difficulty.
