Medal Glory For NSW At Aussies Youth
It’s been a highly successful weekend at The Aussies for teenage competitors from around the state with the large contingent of athletes returning from the Sunshine Coast with 42 medals.
Open only to those in the U14 and 15 Groups, the Youth Championships is a golden opportunity for these NSW youngsters to test their abilities on a national stage for the first time.
And they didn’t disappoint with the final tally that will be entered in the record books being 18 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze medals.
It was a successful competition in the water for NSW athletes.
Manly’s Thomas Bedingfield was a dual gold medallist taking out the U14 Board and Iron Races with Zachary Roja (North Cronulla) claiming gold in the U14 Surf Race.
In the 15s Ethan Coates (Cooks Hill), and James Finn (Newport) took out their respective water events.
On the beach NSW clubs showed off their talents with Isabellah Walker (Cronulla), Chloe Mannix-Power (Cronulla), and Bradley Hunt (Byron Bay) all claiming gold in their respective sprint events. Samuel Zustovic (Helensburgh – Stanwell Park) and Samuel Stonestreet (Cronulla) continued their ongoing battle in the U14 flags with the teenager from the south ultimately claiming top honours.
Alexandra Rampoldi (North Cronulla) continued her golden run in the Flags when she pipped the competition to take home gold in the U15 Female event.
In the longer races the Wanda duo of Chloe Gentle and Annika Durante picked up first and third in the U15 Female 2km, while Newport’s Brodee Trinca earned a bronze in the U14s Female event.
It wasn’t just the individual events where NSW clubbies enjoyed success (though they did relish the U14 Board Race where they swept the field), but the team events as well.
In the 15 male events, Avoca Beach claimed gold in the Male Board Relay and Board Rescue Events, North Cronulla won a hotly contested Cameron Relay. Cronulla dominated the U15 Female Beach relay powering home to win gold and bronze, and North Bondi held off a fast- finishing Terrigal in the Board Relay.
NSW was well represented with 350 entrants from 47 clubs making the start line over the course of the 2-day competition .It’s now time for the Masters and Opens to follow suit with 2,145 NSW athletes
