NSW IRB Premiership Heads to Terrigal
The third round of the NSW IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) Premiership heads to Terrigal this Saturday with four local clubs looking to catch the competition front-runners.
Terrigal SLSC, North Avoca SLSC, Soldiers Beach SLSC and Wamberal SLSC will each be flying the flag for the central coast as over 21 surf clubs and more than 270 athletes look set to battle it out as the NSW IRB Premiership arrives in Terrigal.
The President of Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club, Mardi Love, says the club is once again looking forward to hosting the event after successfully hosting it a number of times during recent years.
“Everyone is looking forward to this Saturday. We’re well across all the logistical and planning side of things after hosting it a number of times and now we can turn to enjoying the spectacle of the IRB racing.
“The whole Premiership has done wonderful things for our club through the nurturing of some fantastic and highly skilled IRB operators that are leading the way not only in competition but more importantly during patrols and emergency response,” said Ms Love.
Following the postponement due to dangerous surf of the finals for round 2 in Batemans Bay, 2013 Premiership Champions, Kiama Downs SLSC, head into Round 3 with a healthy lead over 2013 NSW Champions Caves Beach SLSC. North Cronulla SLSC and South Maroubra SLSC are tied for third with Queenscliff SLSC rounding out the top 5.
SLSNSW Surf Sports Event Coordinator, Rob Pidgeon, highlights that due to the postponement of round 2’s finals, the Premiership is as wide open as ever.
“With the round two finals being rescheduled to round 4 in Woonona, this is effectively just the second chance for teams to get some big results. Anything can happen at this stage and looking ahead, the surf conditions look nice which certainly sets up an exciting day of competition for Saturday,” said Mr Pidgeon.
Competition will run from 8am-4pm on Saturday and for the current Premiership standings after Round 1 please visit our results page.
During the IRB Premiership on Saturday 2GO will be doing a live broadcast from the event site in partnership with Terrigal SLSC to help raise money for 'Give Me 5 For Kids'- an initiative to help raise funds for equipment to treat children in hospital.
