NSW IRB Teams Dominate At Aussies
NSW clubs have dominated the top tier of the overall standings at the 2014 Australian IRB Championships held at Kingscliff over the weekend.
Three NSW clubs finished in the top five with 2014 NSW Champions Kiama Downs SLSC finishing second overall while Caves Beach SLSC finished fourth and South Maroubra equal fifth.
Kiama Downs SLSC had high expectations going into the championships after an incredible season where they won both the NSW Premiership Series and the NSW Championships but were pipped at the post by North Burleigh SLSC. North Burleigh SLSC seems to have a stranglehold on this event with 12 wins from the last 20 years.
Despite North Burleigh winning the overall standings Kiama Downs took out the female teams event and finished third in the mixed IRB Relay, female rescue, male rescue and male tube rescue.
Caves Beach SLSC won the male tube rescue and finished third in the female tube rescue while South Maroubra won silver in the male tube rescue and the male teams event.
NSW finished third overall in the IRB Interstate Championships finishing behind QLD and Victoria.
