NSW Surf Elite Compete At Interbranch

Up to 400 of the best Surf Life Saving athletes from all over NSW will descend on Soldiers Beach this weekend for the 2013 NSW Interbranch Championships.

Each of the 11 regional branches within Surf Life Saving NSW is sending an elite representative team, ensuring one of the highest standards of competition during the surf sports season.

The Interbranch is unique in format, with a maximum of 42 athletes from each branch, comprised of three male and female competitors in the Under-12, Under-13, Under-14, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19 and Open age groups.

The Sydney Northern Beaches branch were crowned champions in 2012 and will once again be lining up with a formidable team including the Brooks brothers, Max and Charlie (Newport SLSC), Georgia Miller (Manly LSC) and Naomi Scott (Manly LSC) who all won multiple events at the 2012 Interbranch Championships.

Surf Life Saving NSW Surf Sports Events Coordinator, Shane Knight, says that this year’s Championships looks to be as tightly fought as ever.

“The Interbranch is always a tough event. With every branch forming their strongest teams possible, the competition looks to be as tough as ever and I really don’t know if there is a clear cut favourite at this stage.

“Sydney Northern Beaches will be looking for a repeat with Sydney and the Hunter doing everything to stop them. The Central Coast branch will take advantage of home soil while Far North Coast and South Coast should be once again battling for supremacy amongst the Country branches,” says Mr Knight.

The opening day comprises mainly individual competition while day two features team events. Daily wraps and results will be available to the media.

Full event details, team lists, timetables and results can be found on the NSW Interbranch Championships Event Page.
