NSW Team Retains Interstate Title
Mighty efforts in the pool and on the beach by our top surf sports competitors has ensured the Interstate Trophy stays in NSW for another year.
After narrowly missing out on the Alan B Whelpton AO Trophy in 2011, the Blues emerged victorious last year over arch rivals Queensland and consolidated their domination today, competing in near perfect conditions at Newport Beach in Sydney.
Great performances by athletes including Manly Olympic kayaker Naomi Flood and female beach sprinters from NSW contributed to the team's success.
NSW has also improved considerably in pool rescue competition, ending yesterday's racing at Homebush in top spot. Coaches Jeff Mowbray and Scott McCartney's efforts have obviously paid off and consistent performances were seen by Andrew Bowden (Bronte) and Terrigal competitors Tim Schofield, Elyssia Gasparotto and Rachelle King.
NSW ended up on 1059 points, ahead of Qld on 1017 and Vic on 643.
