“It’s Ours” – NSW Regain Interstate Title

The New South Wales Interstate Surf Life Saving Team are champions again, regaining the title they lost to Queensland in 2014 after a day of fine performances at Newport Beach.

New South Wales finished the competition on 301 points, 5 clear of fierce rivals Queensland with Western Australia claiming the bronze medal.

The baby blues – members of the U19 team had a field day as they claimed the highest point-score in the youth division, while the Queenslanders took out the highest score in the opens.

There were a number of impressive performances for NSW. Jayke Rees took out the Youth Ironman and finished second in the surf race, Lachlan Tame won the ski and Georgia Miller took out the youth surf race. Olympian Naomi Flood finished third in the open female ski, but dominated the in the final leg of the Open Mixed Ski Relay to take full advantage of the double points power play.

The Taplin relays were some of the most exciting events of the day with strategy playing a key role in determining the winner. With two exciting, close finishes it wasn’t until the very end that it was confirmed that New South Wales had re-claimed the title.
