Off Duty Lifesavers Rescue Capsized Boat Crew

Three people have been rescued after their boat overturned near the CrookHaven River mouth on the NSW South Coast late Wednesday afternoon.

Off duty lifesavers from the nearby Nowra-Culburra Surf Life Saving Club were tasked to the incident and together with Marine Rescue picked up the three stranded boaties.

South Coast Branch Duty Officer, Rhys Dawson, said it appeared the crew of the small tinny were caught off guard.

“Conditions down here are actually quite calm. It appears that it was a freak wave that tipped the boat but luckily a crew from the surf club were nearby to assist.”

The boaties were transported back to shore in the surf club’s Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) with one man being treated for lacerations to the arm.

Marine Rescue towed the capsized boat to shore.
