Patrol Comp Winners Crowned At State Champs
The second day of competition at the NSW Surf Life Saving Championships at Blacksmiths Beach was the patrolling lifesaver’s chance to shine with medals up for grabs in the traditional Patrol Competition.
Freshwater continued on their winning ways taking out gold in the Open Division while Manly were the best of the U17s.
The Patrol Competition is highly technical which really tests the competitor’s lifesaving knowledge.
In the Patrol Competition, the competitors represent their clubs and must demonstrate their knowledge of how a patrol can function efficiently and in a professional manner.
It’s open to competitors aged 17 and above and consists of 4 members in the U17 category and 6 in the open age group with the addition of IRB drivers.
Only the first two placed teams earn the right to enter April’s Australian Championships. The competition begins with an exam to test the knowledge before moving onto scenarios, and team races. To be successful the teams must work together and demonstrate leadership and good practice.
Surf Life Saving NSW Sports Coordinator Luke Stigter said that the opening weekend of the State Titles have been highly competitive.
“It’s been a great start to the NSW State Titles with the Champion Lifesaver and Patrol Competition setting a high standard,”
“The competitors all demonstrated their sound knowledge of lifesaving and showed great teamwork work and skill across the weekend,” Mr Stigter said.
The Lifesaving component of The NSW Titles concluded next Saturday 4 March with the First Aid Championships.
