Regional Athletes Get A Head Start
Over 30 regional athletes and coaches from the south coast got the opportunity to learn from the best at last weekend’s Coaching the Coast Clinic at Broulee Surfers SLSC.
Surf Life Saving NSW’s Coaching the Coast Regional Development Clinic is the base for stimulating grass roots surf sports in regional areas of New South Wales and providing elite coaching to rural athletes.
With NSW State Coach Jeff Mowbray, leading the Broulee clinic, the aim of the program is to assist athletes in regional areas to reach their full potential by exposing them to some of the leading coaches in NSW and Australia, and the start of the SLSNSW high performance development pathway.
SLSNSW Surf Sports Manager, Dan Pearce is very excited about the program and the opportunities it will provide to regional athletes and coaches.
“With the right coaching and support, some of these athletes from the Far South Coast really do have the potential to become our future surf sports stars.
“Through these Coaching the Coast Clinics, Surf Life Saving NSW is able to provide real opportunities for regional athletes to learn from some of the best and most experienced minds in surf sports in the country,” said Dan Pearce.
Coaching the Coast will now head to Coffs Harbour SLSC from the 30th Nov- 1st Dec and is open to athletes aged U14 through to Opens.
SLSA Coaching Advisor Peter Kirkwood will be coaching the clinic participants and will provide athletes of all levels with an opportunity to improve technique and race skills across all disciplines in beach and water events.
