Sapphire Coast Lifeguards Back On Patrol
Beachgoers around the Bega Shire can enjoy an early start to summer festive season after Council extended their relationship with the Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS).
Lifeguards from the ALS will be back on patrol at Bermagui, Tathra, Pambula and Aslings at Eden from Monday 21 December, a full five-days earlier than last season.
The additional week of patrols will ensure that beachgoers will be well watched during the week and with volunteer lifesavers back on deck during the weekend will ensure that there is strong coverage at all patrolled locations.
An additional change that will be implemented during the contract season is the provision of an additional lifeguard at Bar Beach in Merimbula.
This means that that there will now be two ALS lifeguards at every Sapphire Coast patrolled location. This addition allows lifeguards at Bar Beach to work as a team and focus on what they do best – preventing incidents from occurring and keeping the beach going public safe.
ALS NSW Manager Brent Manieri praised Council for their commitment to the beach safety, and is confident of a successful patrol season.
“Council should be congratulated for their commitment to bringing forward the start of patrol season and the addition of a second lifeguard at Bar Beach.
The Sapphire Coast is an extremely popular tourist destination and Council and the ALS are committed to keeping our beaches safe for residents and visitors alike,” Mr Manieri said.
“We recently held a pre-season training school for our south coast lifeguards, and a number of new recruits from Bega also participated in these sessions.
“They all performed strongly and are looking forward to getting out and patrolling their local beach.”
Lifeguards will patrol beaches across the Bega Valley from Monday 21 December through to Wednesday 27 January 2016.
