Search For Missing Fisher

Surf Lifesavers are assisting in a multi-agency search operation for a fisherman in his 20s feared missing at Red Rock, north of Coffs Harbour on Thursday.

It is understood that man went fishing at his regular spot near the rocks at around 4:30pm yesterday, and when he didn’t return his parents concerned for his welfare went looking for him in the early hours of this morning.

After discovering his fishing gear and vehicle his parents alerted Police. A request was made for Surf Life Saving assets to help with the search operation at around 6:30am.

A Duty Officer and the North Coast Branch Support Ski stationed at Woolgoolga are assisting Council Lifeguards and Police with an on-water search.

A helicopter has been tasked from Queensland to provide aerial support and is expected to arrive on scene mid-morning.

Conditions are favourable for the search team with a swell of between 1.5-2 metres, little wind and good visibility.

NSW Lifesaving Manager Andy Kent said that lifesavers will continue to provide support in the operation.

It is understood that the missing man was not wearing a lifejacket.
