Search Underway For Missing Man

A search effort is underway at Turimetta Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Thursday for a man who is believed to have gone missing while swimming.

The State Operations Centre were informed of the incident at around 2pm AEDT when reports began to emerge that a member of the public had witnessed an unconscious man in the water.

They were unable to rescue the man in the powerful surf conditions.

A full scale search and rescue effort involving lifeguards on jet skis and the police has been launched with aerial support being provided by the Westpac Lifesaving Helicopter and the NSW Ambulance Helicopter.

As part of the search, a dye pack has been dropped onto the scene in an effort to ascertain the direction of the current.

No further information about the circumstances surrounding this incident is available at this time.

The search is being conducted under the direction of the NSW Police with a dangerous surf warning still in place for the NSW Coastline.
