Silver City to Surf
Sixteen year old Emily Davidson from Flynns Beach, Port Macquarie has a passion for Surf Life Saving and this March will launch her Silver City to Surf Program.
After approaching a number of local businesses and Rotary Clubs, 2011 Junior Lifesaver of the Year Emily, will see her vision for the Silver City to Surf Program become a reality.
From 1 March 2013 until 7 March 2013, more than twenty children from Broken Hill will experience a weekend by the beach in Port Macquarie.
The aim of the program is to teach vital surf safety skills and beach awareness to children from remote locations.
As well as having the opportunity to learn to surf and take part in Nippers, participants will also visit local historic sites such as the Maritime Museum.
Surf Life Saving is an integral part of Emily's life and she says everyone could benefit from being involved in a volunteering program and learning the skills to save a life.
"For me - when I am on patrol watching and waiting, knowing that people are safe, I see that as being very worthwhile," she said.
