Small Yamba Team Wins Big At Masters Championships

One of the smallest teams at the 2014 NSW Surf Life Saving Masters Championships, Yamba SLSC, turned out an almighty medal haul with the team of three winning more medals than they had people over the weekend.

Allan Schaffer, James Dougherty and Peter Rheinberger made the seven hour journey from Yamba well worth it, proudly representing the only club from the Far North Coast to win a medal at these Masters Championships this weekend.

Peter Rheinberger won silver in the 50-54yr male board race, Allan Schaffer won a silver in the 65+ male tube race and bronze in the Surf Race while the team took silver in the 170yr mixed age surf race.

“While there weren’t a lot of us who were able to make the journey, we love to compete up at Yamba. Very proud of all the boys and it’s definitely made the weekend pretty memorable. I think we were all motivated by young Kalani Ives who won a NSW gold in the Age Championships two weeks ago,” explained Peter.

The top 15 clubs in the overall club point score are as follows:

Queenscliff SLSC
Avoca Beach SLSC
Coogee SLSC
Maroubra SLSC
Bondi Surf Bathers LSC
Palm Beach SLSC
Newport SLSC
Terrigal SLSC
Ocean Beach SLSC
