Statement on Ballina Boating Incident
Surf Life Saving assets attended an incident on a catamaran at Ballina’s Mobbs Bay on Monday where they were involved in the attempted revival of a man thought to be in his 60s.
Following initial reports that the man had fallen off his vessel and had failed to surface, a Far North Coast duty officer, Ballina Jet Ski, and the Ballina Jet Boat were all tasked to attend the scene by the State Operations Centre.
The Ballina Jet Ski was first to reach the scene where they discovered an unconscious man on board. The first responder commenced CPR treatment while the Ballina Jet Boat was the next to arrive. They assisted by transporting paramedics out to the vessel.
Despite the intensive CPR efforts from all involved of almost 40 minutes the man was unable to be revived.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
