Sydney Northern Beaches Lead at Interbranch
Sydney Northern Beaches is in the lead after Day One of the 2012 NSW Surf Life Saving Interbranch Championships at Black Head Beach near Forster.
Tough conditions and a strong north-easterly wind chop tested the surf skills of NSW’s top surf sports competitors both in the water and on the beach.
Kellogg’s Nutri Grain competitor Tom Atkinson from the Sydney Northern Beaches convincingly took out the Open Ironman. Tom said it was a tough race and he was lucky to get a good break for the ski leg.
Up and coming competitor Karlee Nurthen from the Central Coast won the Open Ironwoman event and in the Open Board, the young 17 year old came second to team mate Lauren Stone, ahead of Kellogg's Nutri Grain competitors Candice Falzon, Devon Halligan and Tara Coleman.
The surprise of the day was rising superstar Ryan Carroll from the Mid North Coast who secured first place in the U13 board, swim and ironperson events.
The competitors are not only fighting it out for Branch glory, but to secure their place in the NSW State Team which will be announced tomorrow at the conclusion of the weekend’s competition.
