Sydney Wins Interbranch Champs and NSW Team Announced
Sydney Branch are the 2013 Interbranch Champions. The team are once again the strongest in NSW after nudging out last year’s champions Sydney Northern Beaches and the Central Coast team at Soldiers Beach this weekend.
Sydney Team Manager Mike Vitnell was extremely satisfied to get the title back from Sydney Northern Beaches.
“I’m really proud of our team’s efforts this weekend. We really put the confidence into our guys and drilled into our athletes that they’ve done the training and they just needed to back themselves and that’s exactly what they did.
“We had four disqualifications last year so that was yard stick this year and we finished one better so the whole team’s so pumped!”
The 30 athletes selected for the NSW State Team were also announced this weekend, featuring several high-performing Sydney athletes including Jess Suriano (North Bondi), Taylar Puskaric (Wanda), Jay Furniss (Wanda), Elly Graf (Elouera), Andrew Bowden (Bronte) and ironman Dane Farrell (Elouera).
Central Coast team mates Rachelle King and Tim Schofield were both named Captains of the NSW squad.
NSW Surf Sports Director Michael Bate had nothing but praise for this year’s captains.
“Tim and Rachelle exemplify all the attributes and qualities that NSW looks for. Their dedication to their sport and club and the way that they have excelled on the national and international level is just extraordinary.”
The Far North Coast team was the top performing country branch in the competition.
