That's Not On: Shane Jacobson Lifejacket Campaign
Minister for Roads and Ports Duncan Gay has launched the state’s biggest lifejacket awareness campaign to promote safe and responsible boating behaviour.
Aussie actor and comedian Shane Jacobson is spear-heading a series of light-hearted films titled "That's Not On", which will run as part of a statewide lifejacket campaign.
Surf Life Saving resources are regularly tasked to assist with maritime search and rescue operations for missing or in-distress kayakers, surf ski paddlers, kite surfers, rockfishers and overturned vessels.
SLSNSW Lifesaving Manager, Andy Kent, is supportive of the campaign.
"For those who have taken precautions and are wearing a lifejacket, the outcome is almost always a good one. We are very happy to support any campaign or initiative which works to save lives," said Andy.
Since its inception the State Emergency Response System has responded to 359 calls for assistance for overturned vessels and boats in distress. This is a total of 21 percent of all emergency call-outs.
