Upcoming Events:

Although the flags will shortly fall on another volunteer patrol season there’s still plenty of events throughout the winter months that will attract visitors from the lifesaving community to your area.

The premier winter event is of course Inflatable Rescue Boat (also known as rubber duckie) racing. This high-octane, thrilling sport is designed to not only provide friendly competition for lifesavers during the off-season, but also helps sharpen the skills of crews using this vital piece of lifesaving equipment.

Taking place across four rounds, the IRB Premiership Series is perfect preparation for the season-ending NSW Championships and then the Australian IRB Championships.

In 2015, Kiama Downs retained their title on their home beach, confirming their status as one of top IRB clubs in the country. The ever improving Caves Beach and Catherine Hill Bay teams were hot on their tails and will ensure thrilling competition for this year’s series.

2016 IRB Premiership Series

    7-8 May, Caves Beach

    21-22 May, Terrigal

4-5 June, Birubi Point

    18-19 June, South Maroubra

The NSW IRB Championships will take place at Mollymook on the state’s South Coast from July 2 – 3.

Looking further ahead to the 2016/17 summer season of surf sports and the two major events are the Country Championships and State Championships - both are again expected to be a huge boon for the local economies of the host areas.

South West Rocks will host the Country Titles for the second successive season with a date to be confirmed shortly, while Swansea-Belmont has recently been announced as hosts of the 2017 and 2018 State Championships.

It’s expected that accommodation providers in these areas will receive a surge of interest from competitors, coaches, officials, and supporters all hoping to make the most of their time away.
