Volunteer Spotlight: Evelyn Jacobs

Evelyn Jacobs has been an integral part of the Kempsey Crescent Head Surf Life Saving Club for nearly 20 years.

Volunteering comes naturally to local PE teacher, Evelyn, who started in the nippers side of things when her son (David) joined the surf club in 1995 and also became heavily involved with the local basketball and hockey leagues.

She was quickly roped into becoming the Nippers Chairman soon after and did this role for four years running local nippers carnivals and officiating at the Country Championships in those years.

As the head of fundraising for the surf club she is responsible for contributing between $20,000 and $30,000 in fundraising for the club every year.

Running events such as the Annual Crescent Head Duck Races, bingo, trivia, raffles and the weekly barbeque she has dedicated a big portion of her life to raising money for the surf club.

Club President, Scott Edwards, praised the incredible commitment Evelyn has shown over the years.

“Evelyn has done so much for this surf club I can’t even begin to name it all. She never stops and is around most weekends unless she’s volunteering her time somewhere else.

“There will honestly never be someone else like Evelyn, she’s an incredible person and we are forever in her debt,” said Mr Edwards.

Evelyn was awarded Life Membership this year and Surf Life Saving NSW would like to extend a big thank you to Evelyn and all the other tireless volunteer making our movement so special.
