DEFIBRILLATION

COURSE PURPOSE

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and application using advanced life support techniques with a semi-automatic external defibrillator

PREREQUISITES

·      Minimum of 15 years of age on the date of assessment

·      PUAEME001A Provide Emergency Care, OR

·      SLSA Bronze Medallion/Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic

       Rescue), OR

·      SLSA Senior First Aid Certificate (CPR component must have

       been updated within last 12 months).

COURSE CONTENT

·      Explain the anatomy and physiology of the heart

·      Explain the links of the chain of survival

·      Explain where automatic external defibrillators fit into the 

       pre-hospital

·      Emergency care system

·      Demonstrate CPR

·      Demonstrate Infection control procedures

·      Describe the electrical activity of the heart

·      Demonstrate the process of defibrillation

COMPETENCY STANDARDS

        PUAOPE010A - Operate a semi automatic defibrillator in an

                                emergency

COURSE INFORMATION

Duration: Courses run for 6 hours

Location: Courses are run by professional Nationally Recognised Facilitators to members of affiliated clubs and the general community

Numbers: 2-20

Qualification Period: CPR qualifications are valid for the period of twelve months (one year) from the date of assessment.

Courses are run to suit the environment and defibrillation equipment applicable
