 IRB DRIVER

COURSE PURPOSE

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively drive and manage an IRB in surf rescue operations.

PREREQUISITES

·         A candidate must be a minimum of 16 year to commence

          training and a minimum of 17 years of age on the          

          date of final assessment

·         Hold a current SLSA Bronze Medallion/Certificate II in

          Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)

·         Hold a current SLSA IRB Crew Person Certificate Award

·         +10hours of crewing experience evidenced by a log

ELEMENTS

·         Prepare for rescue boat operation

·         Operate rescue boat

·         Conduct emergency drills

·         Conduct rescue boat search and recovery

·         Recover and restore vessel

·         Determine current location, destination and resources

·         Determine and plan a safe course

·         Navigate to destination

·         Return to home port

·         Complete post navigational activities

       PUAEQU001B - Prepare, maintain and test equipment

       PUASAR001B - Undertake a rescue operation in a small powercraft

Duration: Approx. 8-10 sessions

Location: Courses are run by professional Nationally Recognised Trainers and Assessors to members of affiliated clubs
