2007 - YEAR OF THE SURF LIFESAVER 

The Australian Government has announced 2007 was the Year of the Surf Lifesaver (YSL) to recognise the centenary of Surf Life Saving in Australia. To celebrate this honour an extensive array of celebrations and commemorative were held across the nation. During the year, Boardies Day was launched and this commeration and celebration of the work Surf Lifesaving volunteers do on our beaches is now an annual event. During 2008, Boardies Day will be held on the 22 September, 2008. This is when we encourage the whole of Australia to wear the official uniform of the Surf Lifesaver - board shorts - to work and to donate to Surf Life saving so we can carry on our life saving work.
