Lifeguard applications for Garie during Summer school holidays will be announced soon.


Appointments to beaches will be the responsibility of the Lifeguard Supervisor. All information in relation to employment periods may be obtained by contacting the NSW Lifeguard Officer (02 9984 7188).

Qualification requirements are stipulated in the Surf Life Saving Standard Operating Procedures (Lifesaving Services). Appointments are subject to a 'Working with Children Check'.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess SLSA Bronze Medallion
  • Possess all relevant qualifications and the ability to obtain a Gold Medallion of Surf Life Saving Australia
  • NSW WorkCover-approved First Aid Certificate (current)
  • Advanced Resuscitation Certificate.
  • Lifeguarding/Lifesaving patrol experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public
  • Demonstrate an ability to work in a team situation

ESSENTIAL PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

The Lifeguard is required to keep physically fit and perform all Lifeguard duties. The fitness to be at a level to enable him/her to pass all of the following:

  • 800 metre pool swim under 14 minutes
  • Demonstrate an ability to rescue and return a patient to shore on a rescue board - over 200m
  • Demonstrate ability, in a 150m rescue tube swim, patient pick up and return to shore
  • Demonstrate one and two person CPR
  • Complete a theory examination
  • Complete a SLSA mission

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Inshore Rescue Boat Driver’s Certificate issued by Surf Life Saving Australia and NSW Waterways License
  • A current motor vehicle Driver’s license
  • Demonstrate an ability to operate SLSA radio network
  • Ability to lecture/instruct small or large groups within the community
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act as they relate to the position
  • Working knowledge of the Local Government Act 1993, relating to this position

    Staff will be employed on a casual hourly basis in accordance with Award conditions and remunerated accordingly depending on qualifications and experience
