NAVIGATION LIGHTS FOR SURF BOAT ROWING
NSW Maritime has overhauled marine safety including an increase in night-time patrols, with blitzes on vessel lights. This directly affects surf boats operating in non-daylight hours. All boats must have a torch or lantern to prevent collisions. If a surf boat is regularly operating in non-daylight hours, it is strongly recommended Surf Boats exhibit two all-round lights either continuous, or combination of continuous and flashing white lights, positioned at either end. These are available through
Rowing NSW or The Boat Shop.

ONLINE COACHING AND OFFICIATING COURSES
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has developed two online courses; Beginning Coaching General Principles and Introductory Level Officiating General Principles. These courses help coaches and officials to learn basic skills and they are available free of charge to Australian coaches and officials due to a subsidy provided by the ASC that's designed to encourage beginner coaches and officials to take up training. While these courses are not currently recognised by SLSA as prior training, it is suggested that members can investigate these courses as a form of additional learning. The online courses are available from the Australian Sports Commission’s
online learning portal. For further information about the course visit the Australian Sports Commission website.
