ALLPHONES MAJOR SPONSORSHIP SUPPORTS THRIVING NSW OPENS SURF LIFE SAVING CHAMPIONSHIPS TO 2010 NSW Surf Life Saving Championships has received a major funding boost following the announcement of a sponsorship deal with leading Australian phone retailer ALLPHONES. The three-year commitment means ALLPHONES has secured naming rights for the NSW Surf Life Saving Championships, the Open competition for the over-15s, for the 2008, 2009 and 2010 competitions. This year's Open Championships kick off from 6 March, 2008 and are part of a two-weekend carnival that is the third largest surf lifesaving competition in the world. More than 15,000 people from the region are expected to attend the carnival which will be held at Swansea Belmont SLSC on Blacksmiths Beach, which will host the competition's for the next three years. ATTENTION : FAR NORTH COAST JUNIOR BRANCH CHAMPIONSHIPS HAS MOVED!!!!! The Far North Coast Junior Branch Championships have been moved from Brunswick Heads to Byron Bay for Saturday (THIS WEEKEND ) The Far North Coast Branch Championships will be held at Byron Bay on February 17, 2008 with a presentation at 12 Noon. VOLUNTEER, SURF LIFESAVER AND CLUB OF THE YEAR - EXTENDED TO WED 13 FEBRUARY 08 Nominations are being called for the 2008 State and National Recognition Awards, recognising the Volunteer, Surf Lifesaver, Club, Lifeguard, Athlete, Coach and Official of the Year. This is an opportune time for Clubs and Branches to recognise members who have provided an exceptional service to Clubs, Branches and the community in the 2007/08 season. GERMANY BECKONS FOR RESCUE 2008 International Sports Tours are again involved with the Lifesaving Championships being held in Germany in July this year. IST experienced a very successful year at the Worlds in Viareggio, Italy in 2004 by taking in excess of 100 Officials and Supporters plus many Club teams. Managing Director, Brian Travers traveled to Berlin and Warnemunde last July to check the venues and accommodation where IST will hold allotments. Applications Close 22 February 2008 NATIONAL EMERGENCY VOLUNTEER SUPPORT FUND 2008/09 As you may be aware the National Emergency Volunteer Support Fund 2008/09 funding round (EMA grants) has been announced and further details can be found at http://www.ema.gov.au/. In past years many branches & clubs have been successful in obtaining these grants and it is a great opportunity to gain funds for special projects to a maximum of $50,000. This year the application process has changed with all applications to be endorsed by the relevant State parent body that will then be responsible to lodge same with the Department by the required date. In addition the Department requires a Hard Copy of the application signed by the relevant required officer together with an Electronic Copy of the application. This will necessitate a change to the process of clubs & branches lodgment of applications, with all applications to be forwarded to the attention of Peter James at SLSNSW.
