SURFS SPORTS ACTION IRB racing kicked off for the 2008 season at Manly Beach on the weekend. Clear blue skies and zero swell conditions provided quick and safe racing. 260 competitors representing 19 clubs participated in both rounds, making it the biggest IRB event since its re-introduction in 2004. Round 1 saw Kiama Downs take out the overall pointscore followed by South Maroubra and Caves Beach. Competitors backed up on Sunday for Round 2 with Kiama Downs taking out the pointscore again, closely followed by Thirroul and then South Maroubra. All four clubs were within 2 points of each other which will ensure hotly contested races in the rounds to come. The next IRB racing action will be held at Terrigal on the 24 & 25 May.
