How long has the surf lifesaving movement been in existence? Surf lifesaving was formally inaugurated in 1907. During 2007 the centenary of lifesaving was celebrated in the Year of the Lifesaver.

How many people were saved on our beaches last year? In season 2007/08, there were:
7310 lives saved; 12,729 first aid measures performed; and 133,543 preventative actions taken.
