SUMMARY:2025 'Gone Fishing' Rock Fishing Safety Program
DESCRIPTION:Surf Life Saving NSW will deliver Phase 2 of the highly successful rock fishing safety and skills program\, Gone Fishing to at-risk communities over several months in 2025. \nRock fishing is one of the most popular recreational activities in New South Wales\, but also one of the most dangerous in Australia\, with a high risk of injury and drowning. \nAccording to Surf Life Saving Australia’s Coastal Safety Brief – Fishing 2023\, 70% of rock fishers who drowned were not wearing life jackets. DESCRIPTION:The doors are officially open\, and we’re excited to welcome members to the 2026 SLSNSW State Conference! This year\, our theme is inspired by our organisational Strategic Plan — Strengthen and Consolidate — with conference content aligned to our 5 Strategic Priority Themes: \n\nReducing drowning in unpatrolled locations\nImproving the member experience\nSupporting club sustainability\nOptimising structures\, resourcing and digital infrastructure for our frontline\nEnsuring our ongoing relevance and value to the community\n\nAttendance \nRegistrations are now open for 2 members from each Club\, Branch Presidents and Standing Committee Members.  80 spaces have been made available for previous Emerging Leader Program Participants to join this event.  Members can REGISTER HERE. \nOther interested members can join the conference waitlist\, and these members will be invited to join should other clubs not utilise their allocated spaces.  Members can join the waitlist by using the registration link above. \nAll club registrations must have club support and approval prior to submission\, and the deadline for registrations is midnight on Sunday 24 May.   \nTravel and Accommodation Subsidies \nDriving \nMembers driving to the conference from MNC\, LNC\, HUN\, CC\, SNB\, SYD\, ILL\, SC and FSC will be able to claim mileage subsidies (capped amounts dependent on location) by completing an expense claim form with the kilometres travelled. We strongly encourage carpooling. \nThe subsidy amounts are based on average mileage distances\, and are as follows: \n\nMNC: $450 (fuel)\nLNC: $420 (fuel)\nHUN: $320 (fuel)\nCC: $195 (fuel)\nSNB: $80 (fuel)\nSYD: $55 (fuel)\nILL: $120 (fuel)\nSC: $240 (fuel)\nFSC: $500 (fuel)\n\nParking will be available at the Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport\, and costs will be covered for the duration of your stay. \nFlights \nFlights for members travelling to and from the conference will be subsidised. Flights will need to be booked by the individual/club\, and an expense claim form submitted (with proof of purchase / ticket receipt). Subsidy figures for each member are listed below and are based on average airline ticket prices. \nPlease note that ticket prices traditionally rise as the departure date nears. \n\nFNC: $250 (flights)\nNC: $400 (flights)\nMNC: $500 (flights)\nLNC: $500 (flights)\nFSC: $550 (flights)\n\nFlight Times and Airport Transfers \nMembers flying to the State Conference can arrive on Friday 24th July and there will be an informal gathering on the Friday evening (noting this is not part of the conference). \nMembers who choose to fly on Saturday 25th July will need to arrive prior to 9.00am as the conference registration will take place at 9.30am.  The conference will end at 1pm\, and we recommend flights be booked from 2.30pm. \nThe venue is a 1km walk or a short taxi/Uber ride from the airport. Reimbursements for transfers will be available. Please note there is no shuttle bus transfer. \nAccommodation \nFriday and Saturday night accommodation is available to members from FNC\, NC\, MNC\, LNC\, HUN\, SC and FSC. \nSaturday night accommodation is available to members from CC and ILL. \nMembers from Sydney and Sydney Northern Beaches Branches can choose to join the rest of the participants for breakfast on Sunday morning from 7:00am.  This can be selected on the registration form.
