Membership Manager

We are seeking a highly-motivated Membership Manager to champion, drive and implement new and existing initiatives.

Surf Life Saving NSW is the state’s primary water safety and rescue organisation and one of the largest volunteer movements in the country. We support more than 75,000 members in 129 clubs to serve the community through the provision of beach patrol services, coastal emergency response, training and education, sports and junior development.

Surf Life Saving NSW has recently received funding to improve the volunteer experience in Surf Life Saving NSW and grow its membership base. This role will develop and implement strategies to better support Clubs in NSW with member recruitment, retention and inclusion, including programs to support volunteer leadership, management and governance across the organisation.

We are seeking a highly-motivated Membership Manager to champion, drive and implement new and existing initiatives focused on the growth and satisfaction of Surf Life Saving NSW’s varied membership base, from juniors (Nippers) to patrolling members, from Executive members to administrators. You will do this by working closely with the Learning & Development Manager and other departments within Surf Life Saving NSW, as well as with a range of volunteers and members who are passionate about the organisation.

Some of the duties will include:

  • Reviewing the effectiveness of existing programs and developing business plans to achieve organisational objectives linked to Surf Life Saving NSW’s Strategic Plan 2018-21.
  • Providing leadership and technical guidance to staff within the Membership Team.
  • Overseeing the delivery of a wide variety of projects and programs across the Membership Team’s broad remit of responsibility.

Essential experience required:

  • Experience in managing individuals and teams to meet short and long term organisational goals.
  • An understanding of most, if not all of the following: volunteer recruitment and retention strategies; inclusion; charity governance; leadership and management; youth engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Basic project management and change management skills.

The right person for this role will be a dedicated and enthusiastic worker who understands the importance of the volunteer experience in ensuring organisational success and who is prepared to embrace, lead and manage change.

Location: Surf Life Saving NSW Headquarters - Belrose

Position: Full time (some flexibility is a possibility for the right candidate)
